Apartment Am Ring

Basel’s ‘Am Ring’ neighborhood forms a belt around the western edge of the Old Town, following the line of the city’s former outer fortifications. Am Ring is distinguished by its mix of well-preserved Neoclassical buildings and larger scale post war modernist housing developments. In a 30 unit apartment building from 1970, Melançon Mader supported the owners in updating their home with new bathrooms, kitchen, electrical and floor heating as well as materials and curtain selection.

The main floor plan change was the removal of the original fireplace and the wall between the kitchen and living room. This allowed for the creation of a double-sided galley kitchen with a partially open island feature.
