Case Study: Designing for Identity

For a bar and café specializing in Portuguese wines and pastries, we were commissioned to design an interior concept that could transition well between daytime café and intimate evening dining. With the bakery café in the front room and the wine bar in the rear, the business has two distinct spaces needing a unifying theme. The company logo—a black and white, modern design with a graphic evoking the bubbles of sparkling wine—inspired the interior design and lighting concept that subtly integrates the brand identity into the space. The furniture draws on Portuguese design: the renowned ‘Portuguese Chair’ defines the courtyard seating, while complementary seating from the same manufacturer is used indoors, all made in Portugal. The modern, clear silhouettes of custom millwork and furniture are softened by plants, textiles and handcrafted ceramic tableware.
